Citron notes that the biography is interesting \nnot only because it provides a compelling portrait of Vinson as a man, but \nalso because it turns the conventional wisdom about the Justice on its head. \nLegal historians have generally postulated that Vinson’s death allowed Warren \nCourt advances in civil rights law such as Brown v. Board of Education, but \nthe authors say this is not so.\n\n<\/span>

As Dean notes, the volume contains much more than the \nFederalist Papers Hamilton wrote — including Hamilton’s public letter \ndispelling an accusation of corruption with an admission of adultery, and a \nnumber of writings relating to the notorious Burr-Hamilton duel — such as \nthe letter Hamilton penned to be given to his wife if he were to die. \n<\/span>

As Zand explains, the book is a true crime \nstory with an intriguing genesis — the victim, knowing she might be killed \nby her ex-husband, left a note for her sister requesting that Rule write her \nstory in the event that she was murdered. Zand explains the book’s virtues \nand its flaws, and considers why Rule’s background may have led her to grant \nthe wish of the victim, Sheila Bullush. \n\n<\/span>

A REVIEW OF THE CASE FOR AUSCHWITZ: EVIDENCE FROM THE IRVING TRIAL<\/a><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/table>\n \nFindLaw book reviewer and attorney Matthew Herrington discusses a recent book \nby Robert Jan van Pelt, a historian who served as an expert witness in the libel \nsuit that another historian, David Irving, brought against Penguin Books in \nBritain. Irving claimed Penguin had defamed him by suggesting that he had \ndistorted the historical record in order to support a theory of Holocaust \ndenial. As Herrington explains, van Pelt’s book not only discusses the \nevidence about the Holocaust, and about Auschwitz’s use as a death camp that \nPenguin used at trial to rebut Irving’s claims, but also raises more abstract \nquestions about proof and evidence in general. \n\n<\/span>
